The year ends with such sadness and such devastation for the people of Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and those whose hearts are larger than their pursestrings. What can we do to help, we wonder. In the face of such insurmountable suffering we cannot give up on what we can do, though it may be far from our immediate reality. We can send support in many forms. We can send monetary as well as prayers and social support to those in more immediate contact with those in these lands whom we have lost, and we can learn from the people of those regions affected, who strive to put their lives back together in any way they can. We are part of a global community. We are all connected in ways we may not ever acknowledge or comprehend. We give of ourselves by our concern, by our hope, by our belief that life continues (Read Robert Thurman's book Infinite Life) and we allow our compassion to direct our thoughts and actions in ways our minds may not know how to approach conditions of such devastation. We allow the suffering to touch us and we share our support in any way that we can. We send the people of the world whose lives we touch in all these ways strength as well as peace. Peace.
